Crisis in Ukraine: The Corporate Responsibility to Respect Rights During Conflict

On March 22, 2022, Heartland hosted a discussion for investors on the crisis in Ukraine and the corporate responsibility to respect human rights during conflict.

Panelists examined the actions investors must take to fulfill their responsibilities to respect human rights in Ukraine and other conflict-affected areas. They also reviewed the responses to date and explored potential next steps. Additionally, the discussion focused on three industries with significant exposure to human rights risks—information and communication technology, extractives, and finance—and explored emerging efforts to engage companies from these sectors that are particularly vulnerable to rights violations.

Rich Stazinski and Sam Jones were joined by Ryan Brightwell (BankTrack), Jim Gamble (Pacific Environment), Sonia Kowal (Zevin Asset Management), Isedua Oribhabor (Access Now), Andrei Soldatov (Agentura.ru), and Kate Watters and Elena Sorokina (Crude Accountability).
