On April 27, 2022, Sam Jones from Heartland participated in the “Navigating the Surveillance Technology Ecosystem” panel at the Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies (MIGS) 2022 AI and Human Rights Forum. The panel explored the increasing human rights and material risks associated with both targeted and mass surveillance, as well as the important roles investors and civil society can play in promoting corporate accountability for surveillance-related harms.
Sam was joined by Nardine Alnemr (Centre for Deliberative Democracy and Global Governance at the University of Canberra), Rachel Nishimoto (Manager of ESG Stewardship at Parnassus Investments), Danny Rayman (Technology and Human Rights Researcher at the Business and Human Rights Resource Centre), and Laura Okkonen (Investor Advocate at Access Now).
